Coffee With a Consultant
We're taking bookings for July!
Grab a coffee and spend 30 minutes with one of our senior process safety specialists. You and your team can join us for a relaxed, confidential conversation. No agenda, no sales pitch, just expert insights into your process safety challenges.
We’re offering 12 consultation sessions on a first-come, first-served basis. While each company can book one session, you’re welcome to bring colleagues along. The more perspectives, the better the conversation. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve worked with our lab, our consultants, or both. These sessions are designed to start wherever you are.
We’ll connect over Microsoft Teams for a relaxed 30-minute chat. These consultations are available for teams based in the UK and EU only. Please ensure you can attend your selected time slot, and give us a heads-up if you need to reschedule.
Please also sign up using a business email address. Unfortunately, we will have to cancel appointments made using personal email addresses.
Industrial Explosion Hazards Testing | DSEAR Risk Assessments | HAZOP/HAZID | Chemical Process Evaluation
Meet the consultants you'll be having coffee with
☕️ Industrial Explosion Hazards Testing (FULLY BOOKED)
Explosion hazard assessments often rely on supplier data that doesn’t match actual process conditions. Gaps frequently surface when auditors ask detailed questions about specific materials or ignition scenarios. With regulatory scrutiny intensifying, incomplete testing data can quickly become a compliance issue. In these sessions, we could review your materials, process conditions, and documentation to identify gaps before your next inspection.
Gavin Rogers, IEH Laboratory & Quality Manager
Gavin specialises in industrial explosion hazards testing and has extensive experience in laboratory quality management systems. Gavin is an expert in electrostatic and combustible dust hazards and has managed testing programmes across manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and specialty materials industries, providing critical data for ATEX and DSEAR compliance.
- Explosion hazards testing (dust, gas, vapour)
- Electrostatic hazards assessment & testing
- ISO 17025 laboratory quality management
- Test method development & validation
Although Gavin is fully booked for July, we can reserve your spot for the next round!
🫖 DSEAR Risk Assessments (FULLY BOOKED)
DSEAR assessments tend to focus on obvious hazards while real challenges hide in process modifications, material substitutions, or overlooked scenarios. Small gaps become significant findings during inspections, especially as assessments drift from operational reality. If your last DSEAR review was over two years ago, it’s worth exploring whether your assessments remain current. We could walk through your specific scenarios, recent changes, and documentation to identify vulnerabilities.
Mahmoud Hafez, Principal Process Safety Consultant
Mahmoud holds an MSc in Safety, Risk and Reliability Engineering from Heriot-Watt University and is a Chartered Member of IOSH (CMIOSH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), and Certified PHA and HAZOP Leader. He is qualified as an ISO management systems auditor and has delivered technical training on DSEAR, ATEX, and process safety engineering across chemical processing, petrochemicals, and manufacturing industries.
- DSEAR & ATEX assessments
- Hazardous area classification
- Gap analysis & regulatory compliance
Although Mahmoud is fully booked for July, we can reserve your spot for the next round!
🫘 HAZOP & HAZID
HAZOPs and HAZIDs are often treated as one-off design-stage exercises, then quietly drift as processes evolve, MOCs accumulate, and assumptions stop matching the plant. Gaps usually surface during an audit, an incident review, or when functional safety obligations under IEC 61511 come back round. In these sessions, we could revisit your existing studies, walk through recent process changes, and identify where reassessment would close the biggest gaps.
Dr Mark Bunch, Senior Process Safety Consultant
Mark holds an M.Eng. and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds and has delivered HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA, Human Reliability Assessment, Functional Safety Management, and DSEAR studies across food and drink, bulk and fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and explosives. He combines facilitation experience with technical depth in functional safety and is a recognised technical speaker in the field.
- HAZOP & HAZID facilitation
- LOPA & SIL determination
- Process Safety Management
🥐 Chemical Process Evaluation (FULLY BOOKED)
Process chemistry that runs cleanly at lab scale doesn’t always behave the same way at plant scale, and the differences can introduce hazards that weren’t visible during development. New feedstocks, altered conditions, or modified equipment compound the drift. Issues often surface late, during commissioning or troubleshooting. We could walk through your chemistry, scale-up basis, and recent changes to flag where the safety case has drifted.
Dr Oliver Armstrong, CPE Lab Manager
Oliver holds a B.Sc. and PhD in Chemistry and an M.Sc. in Nanotechnology from Bangor University, completed across the Chemistry and Electronic Engineering Schools. He has led developmental projects, tech transfer, process troubleshooting, and environmental and energy audits across pharmaceutical, optics, paper manufacturing, and waste-water treatment industries.
- Chemical process evaluation & development
- Scale-up & tech transfer safety
- Process troubleshooting
Although Ollie is fully booked for July, we can reserve your spot for the next round!
Frequently asked questions
Is this really free with no obligation?
Yes. These are genuine knowledge-sharing sessions with no expectation of follow-up work. We’re here to help you assess where you stand and what might need attention.
What should I prepare before the session?
Just bring your questions or specific challenges. If you have particular processes, materials, or recent audit findings you’d like to discuss, having those details handy is helpful but not required.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Absolutely. Everything discussed remains confidential. We understand the sensitivity of process safety information and treat all conversations accordingly.
What if I need to reschedule?
Just give us 24 hours’ notice and we’ll work with you to find an alternative slot if available.
Which consultant will I speak with?
When booking, you can select the specialist whose expertise best matches your needs, whether that’s explosion hazards testing or DSEAR assessments.
Are these consultations only for UK and EU businesses?
Yes, these complimentary sessions are available for UK and EU-based teams only. Our consultants specialise in UK and EU regulatory requirements, so we’ve limited these sessions to regions where we can provide the most relevant guidance. If you’re based elsewhere and accidentally book, we’ll reach out to let you know and apologise for any inconvenience.
What if all the slots are already booked?
If all 12 sessions are full, please email us at [email protected]. We maintain a waiting list in case any consultations need to be rescheduled or cancelled. If a slot becomes available, we’ll reach out to see if you’re still interested and can join us.
Can I book using a personal email address?
Please use your business email address when booking. We unfortunately have to cancel appointments made using personal email addresses as these sessions are designed for professional process safety discussions within organisations.
